Curiosity!

Documented

In the signatures, her name is written before that of Emeterius, the priest she worked with.

What we know (and what we don’t)

  • Documented

The closing page calls her “pintrix et Dei aiutrix” — painter and helper of God — next to the priest Emeterius.

  • Not certain

Her name is read as either En or Ende. Which pictures she painted and which Emeterius painted is not known.

  • It is believed

It is believed the book was made at the monastery of Tábara, in León; the closing page itself does not say so.

  • Not certain

She is often called a nun, but no record confirms it. Her birth and death dates are unknown.
