Curiosity!

Documented

She asked that her abstract works not be shown until at least 20 years after her death.

What we know (and what we don’t)

  • Documented

Her abstract paintings date from 1906, before Kandinsky's first abstractions around 1911.

  • Not certain

Whether she should be called 'the first' abstract artist is debated, since she did not exhibit these works publicly.
